The playful maximalism of Miley Cyrus’s home designed by her mother

It’s been less than a year since superstar Miley Cyrus bought this six-bedroom, seven-bathroom, 632-square-foot vacation home in Southern California. The project has been completely “Mileyized” with the special support of Tish Cyrus (her mother is also an interior designer) and partner Mat Sanders.

Tish shares: “When entering a house, the most important thing for me is that I want to know who lives here, what their personality is, what they love… As Miley’s mother, I know her very well. Therefore, as you can see, at first glance, the house is very luxurious and splendid, but still extremely stable and disciplined in that beauty.”

As for Miley, she loves the openness of space: “Someone is cooking in the kitchen, someone is watching TV, someone is enjoying some whiskey at the bar, someone is playing the piano,… everything.” We both still feel as if we are together even when we are not experiencing the same space.”

Tish admits that her main style is boho chic and in her home she likes things to be neutral. But with Miley, it is a typical “rock and roll” aesthetic with many colors. From the Ettore Sottsass bookcase, to a chair shaped like a literal wiggly mouth, to artist Brian Robles’s psychedelic surface treatments on the ceiling are just a few examples of Miley’s interesting aesthetic. Overall, the house has a bit of an East Coast style.

During the design process, Tish enjoyed Miley’s playful maximalism. The female superstar shared: “My mother believes that nothing is permanent, that nothing can be undone. People make bold choices in their lives. Sometimes that ‘gambling’ works, bringing you luck, or it doesn’t. But that’s a risk we’re willing to take. All reflected in this interior design style.”

The painting Blue Nude III by artist Henri Matisse brings elegance and sophistication to Miley’s master bathroom. The home also has a fitness and wellness room, with muted mid-tone tones, creating a feeling of spaciousness and tranquility. “I was inspired by Amangiri – a resort in the heart of the desert” – Mile said: “It was a truly spiritual experience. I was there when I went through a very public breakup.”

Meanwhile, the tiger-faced Gucci wall part is the highlight of the powder room. “I was a little scared but we did our best,” Tish said. A 1970s Murano glass and brass mirror hung above a custom marble vanity and an Isla faucet by Waterworks made the space both bold and unique.”

Regarding the living room, Tish shared: “This elegant room is the place to welcome guests. As soon as you enter, it all creates a special vibe.” To add drama, Tish and Sanders painted the room Soot Smoke by Benjamin Moore. A steel Monumental chandelier from Blackman Cruz hangs above custom lounge chairs and a Lawson Fenning coffee table, while a super-luxe rug from Lawrence of La Brea creates coziness.

“Songwriting is storytelling, and I think the instruments you use to tell the story add so many elements and tones to what you’re creating,” Miley shares. So, in the early 1990s, she brought this piano into her living room.

The kitchen is one of the least variable rooms. However, Tish and Sanders decided to change the hardware and replace the lighting system to create a connection with the remaining spaces. Sanders designed tables and chairs covered in Kilimandjaro fabric by Pierre Frey. A Barium Ziperstein vase on the kitchen table is one of many ceramic works that Miley has collected. Glass objects by artists including Helle Mardahl and Glass by Ariel are displayed on the table, under Motley Crue photos by Mick Rock.

The dining room incorporates Lawson Fenning chairs upholstered in Pindler’s Prism fabric. A slender yet eye-catching lamp by Atelier de Troupe is balanced on the ceiling, providing soft light reflecting off a vintage mirror and a work by artist Orrin Whalen.

Studio with triangular ceiling drawn by designer Brian Robles, which provides much inspiration for Miley Cyrus. Waves of color and psychedelic design are the main inspiration of the space.

The backyard area with its lagoon-style pool and lush landscaping appears as a meditative oasis. “I come from Nashville on a 500-acre farm,” Miley shares. We don’t have any neighbors. None of us bothered about wearing shoes or clothes. We ran around the farm all day. It’s hard to do it here now, but every time I’m in this backyard, I feel like I’m back in Nashville again.”
