Miley Cyrus recently shared that she has been sober for the past six months after years of partying and drug use. The “Party in the USA” singer underwent vocal chord surgery in November and revealed that she initially chose to become sober to focus on her recovery.

Miley Cyrus has been sober for half a year now. However, she revealed that her journey towards sobriety also involved reflecting on her family’s past and thinking about her own future. She shared that waking up 100% of the time is what she loves most about being sober.

Initially, it was just about vocal surgery, but later, she started thinking a lot about her mother. Miley’s mother was adopted, and she inherited some of the feelings of abandonment and wanting to prove herself valuable. Miley’s father’s parents divorced when he was three, so he had to raise himself.

On the stage of the VMAs, Getty Contributor reports that she famously twerked. She also revealed that she did a lot of research on family history and mental health challenges. She believes that understanding the past helps us understand the present and the future.

While being sober at a young age is hard due to the stigma of being no fun, she argued in an interview with Variety’s Big Ticket podcast that people can call her many things, but she knows she’s fun.

In 2019, Miley and Liam ended their marriage.
