Joker: Folie à Deux Was Inspired By A Francis Ford Coppola Film

Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker: Folie à Deux is rumored to be set in Arkham Asylum. The film explores the twisted love story between the Joker and Harley Quinn. The title, using the French term folie à deux, refers to a shared mental disorder affecting close family members or individuals.

While speaking with YouTuber Matti Haapoja, cinematographer Lawrence Sher shared insights about the upcoming movie. She revealed that the movie is visually inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s 1981 musical film, One from the Heart.

“I broke that down for the new ‘Joker’ so that it was part of the conversation. Whether those images ended up really influencing the new one, in part maybe they did, they became a conversation starter for me and Mark Friedberg the production designer and [director] Todd [Phillips] as we scouted in those early days.

Even if it’s not a reference that you’re going to take on set and say ‘I want it to look like that,’ it’s like brain food. It’s dream food.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is due to be released on October 4, 2024, and fans couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming movie. It remains to be seen whether the film will end up surpassing all expectations once it drops this year.
