People Spent Over 2 Billion Hours Watching Adam Sandler Movies on Netflix

Over the past five years, viewers have spent 2 billion hours watching Adam Sandler movies released on streaming services.

According to Screen Rant , from June 2019 to June 2020, Adam Sandler earned $41 million. This number has a significant contribution from his partnership with Netflix.

The cooperation deal between Sandler and the online movie tycoon was signed in 2015 and renewed in January this year. The films the comedian made for Netflix such as The Ridiculous 6 , Murder Mystery or Hubie Halloween are all among the top works with high views.

According to Variety , since The Ridiculous 6 – Sandler’s first work for the studio – was released in 2015, audiences have spent more than 2 billion hours watching the actor’s films on the platform. The data was announced along with the information that Hubie Halloween became the most watched movie title on Netflix in the US in 2020.

Although not popular with critics, Sandler’s humor conquered the mass audience. Before the above cooperation deal, Adam Sandler was an attractive name in the international market.

In 2008, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan – Sandler’s little-known film – earned a revenue of 204.3 million USD with more than 104 million USD from the international box office. Bedtime Stories (2009) was also successful, grossing $212.87 million globally with more than $100 million contributed by markets outside North America.

This is also the revenue level that many of Sandler’s other titles achieved with a similar amount of capital. Stable business results are the reason why Netflix chose the comedian to make many of their original films.

On the other hand, Netflix also supports Sandler greatly in making films in his unique style.

Users don’t fixate on their movie viewing tastes with tense works like Stranger Things or dramatic action like The Old Guard . Data shows that sometimes they also want to relax with simple comedies with familiar actors.

Although many fans want Adam Sandler to take on dramatic or heavy roles more often, which Uncut Gems is typical of, the actor’s light comedic works still prove to have a certain appeal.
