NBA: Is it really good? This is how Victor Wembanyama has done at the start of the NBA season
The Frenchman has shown the best version of himself in his first season in the American league and is shaping up to be the future of the Texan franchise.
One of the players to watch before the season was Victor Wembanyama. The number one in the last Draft came to the league with high expectations and it was believed that perhaps he would not be up to par in the NBA, after his time in Europe, but his contribution has been constant in a team that aims to remain at the bottom of the Western Conference.
The 2.24 meter Frenchman was selected by the San Antonio Spurs and is expected to be the face of the future of the Texan franchise in the coming years. Likewise, the center has been showing his abilities on the court and is emerging as one of the best young players in the league.
Has he lived up to it?
Even before starting the season, Wembanyama was emerging as the main favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. However, in recent weeks Chet Holmgren, an Oklahoma City Thunder player who missed the previous season due to an injury, has surpassed him in the league rankings.
In this campaign, “Wemby” has averages of 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.7 blocks in 30 minutes of play. Additionally, he has 43.7% on field goals, 27.1% on long-distance shots and 82.9% on free throws. One of the negative statistics of the Frenchman is the high number of losses per commitment with 3.5.
During the first 18 games of his NBA career, Wembanyama has shown a great capacity to adapt on the court and represents a new breed of players who exceed 2.10 meters in height and have the agility of a point guard or a shooting guard within the basketball court.
The sky is the limit

The Spurs’ plan is to build, in the future, a competitive team that can be in the top positions of the Western Conference and the evolution of French will be decisive for make this happen. Gregg Popovich, coach of San Antonio, knows that he has a diamond in the rough that can work to bring out the best in the player in the coming years.
Likewise, Wembanyama has the full support of the Spurs management to develop his game and work on his weak points. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker are part of this process and, on more than one occasion, it has been seen how the legends of the Texan team have been at the team facilities training with the Frenchman to share with him the experience, skills and knowledge of him.
