The James family had to go through what can only be described as the worst nightmare. Bronny James had a cardiac arrest during a workout for his USC debut, when he suddenly fell to the ground. Though he was rushed to the hospital in no time, LeBron James had to hear the news that the cardiac arrest was due to a congenital heart defect.

Not the kind of news any parents look forward to. And now, with his eldest son in good health and getting ready for the missed debut, Bron couldn’t be more thankful. He has a completely new perspective on life now.

LeBron James on life since his son’s cardiac arrest

Bronny was in attendance for last night’s Lakers game. When asked about his presence courtside, the father of three got emotional. “To have him there, smiling and alive, after what happened earlier in the summer…puts everything in perspective,” James said.

(Story still developing)

It certainly must have. Bronny had been practicing for his USC debut when the unfortunate incident happened. The doctors confirmed that the cardiac arrest was due to a congenital heart defect. Not the kind of news any parents want to hear. But that was the reality.

This, of course, led to a lot of concerns. From Bronny’s future to James’ career, everything was suspended in the air. It was in light of this that Bron had somewhat hinted at a retirement. But with his son back to everyday life and seeing him in the stadium yesterday, the 4x champion has a much clearer idea about life.

About three months after Bronny’s medical emergency, James had promised that he was going to dedicate this season to his son. And he has kept his word. Even going so far as to say that he would miss a Lakers game if Bronny’s USC debut was on the same day.

While this touched many, others called him out for being a “liar” (read: Gilbert Arenas). Whatever the noise going around him, it seems like he is determined to keep his word. In the press conference where he mentioned dedicating the season, he also said how the summer “put everything into perspective“.

Clearly, the cardiac arrest has had a much deeper impact on King James. Basketball is everything to him. But “family over everything” is a motto that he has followed for a long time. Narrowly escaping what could have been a devastating incident, Bron is appreciative of everything.

Bronny, on the other hand, has never looked better. As his father said during Bronny’s recuperation, it would be hard to imagine that the 19-year-old just went through a traumatizing experience. With his USC debut getting closer, Bronny James is adamant about making his mark.

And he knows his father will be there, cheering him on.
