Former Pats coach made an awkward moment even more uncomfortable
It was a given with Taylor Swift in attendance for the Kansas City Chiefs’ “Monday Night Football” matchup against the New Orleans Saints that she would likely get quite a bit of air time on the ESPN broadcast.
While die-hard NFL fans have taken issue with and expressed their frustration over Swift getting so much publicity for simply showing up and sitting in a suite, others don’t seem to mind.
In fact, in a recent player survey conducted by The Athletic, 72.5% of players polled believe all of the attention Swift commands at games is ultimately a good thing for the NFL.
However, there are still those who are unsettled by her presence — a group that seemingly includes Peyton and Eli Manning. During Monday’s “ManningCast” broadcast, cameras cut to a shot of Swift cheering in her suite, which led to some painfully awkward silence.
Enter former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who knew just how to make things more uncomfortable.
“Big first half for Kelce,” Belichick said with a smirk as he broke up an unpleasant five-second muteness. “Too big; too big.”
Belichick’s remarks were the only words uttered in a 16-second span before Peyton clumsily started fumbling for words.
Kelce did, in fact, have a good first half. He caught eight passes for 67 yards, leading the Chiefs in both categories as well as targets (9).
Kelce and Swift’s relationship has been front-and-center of most Chiefs’ broadcasts since the two started dating last year. Swift has attended most of Kansas City’s home games since then, and she’s the go-to shot any time Kelce makes a big play or scores a touchdown.
