Caitlin Clark becomes an expert in making her critics look bad: Geno Auriemma is her latest victim
Clark continues her march to the MVP award.
Caitlin Clark is set to silence another one of her critics in her impressive rookie year in the WNBA as the 22-year-old bears down on the comments made by NCAA’s UConn Huskies basketball coach.
The ex-Iowa Hawkeyes star stunned the college basketball scene by smashing Pete Maravich‘s record as she became the all-time lead scorer in NCAA Division I, just weeks after surpassing Kelsey Plum‘s record.
Then she graduated to the professional basketball scene as the overall first pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, where she is now averaging 19.5 points per game, 8.4 assists per game and 5.7 rebounds per game and has made Geno Auriemma look rather silly.
The UConn Huskies coach had accused Clark‘s fans of being “delusional” to The Dan Patrick Show in June if they felt she would “win that league and tear it apart” before pointing out Clark was, “third of fourth in betting odds” to become MVP.
He then added, “These people are so disrespectful and so unknowledgeable and so stupid that it gives women’s basketball a bad name.” However, it now seems as though he is the one lacking some knowledge.
Clark has now moved herself up to sixth in the 2024 KIA MVP contest and threatens to surpass Breanna Stewart in fourth as she continues to move up the order thanks to her sensational form since the All-Star break.
The Fever’s ace guard has only shot below 19 points twice through 13 games totalling 316 points, as well as adding 71 rebounds and 116 assists meaning her post-All-Star average is an incredible 24.3 points per game, 8.9 assists per game and 5.4 rebounds per game
Her form has clinched the Fever a playoff berth, despite them finishing last in the Eastern Conference in 2023, highlighting just how strong her dynamic with Aliyah Boston has turned out to be.
She will look to continue the run against the Washington Mystics on Thursday, September 18 with tip-off in Washington DC expected at 19:00 ET/16:00 PT.
