United grew into the game after weathering an early City storm, and in the second half they were undoubtedly the better side.

Though it was substitute Garnacho who gave United the lead, United fans were particularly impressed by Casemiro.

The midfielder endured a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, with many supporters calling for him to be sold this summer.

But after enjoying a full summer break – he was not selected to play for Brazil at the Copa America – Casemiro put in an accomplished performance at the heart of United’s midfield.
