Hurricane Milton may have fallen to Category 4 strength Wednesday morning, but the historic storm is still set to devastate the Gulf Coast and other parts of Florida when it makes landfall this evening into early Thursday morning.

The first rain bands have moved in on the Sunshine State, as National Hurricane Center warns that “Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida.”
Tampa mayor Jane Castor is warning any residents who aren’t heeding mandatory evacuation orders that if they do not leave their homes, “that’s the coffin you’re in.”

With just hours before Hurricane Milton is expected to hit Florida, some thrill-seekers were spotted at Universal Studios in Orlando on Wednesday morning.
Most brought umbrellas or ponchos, but some chose to just be in the rain before the park closes at 2 p.m. on Wednesday before the storm. Universal Studios preemptively announced it would be closed on Thursday.
“We anticipate a full reopening of our destination, including Halloween Horror Nights, on Friday, Oct. 11 at our normal operating hours pending the outcome of storm impacts,” the park’s website said.
