Palmer was Chelsea’s standout performer last season.
Jamie Carragher has made an extraordinary prediction about Cole Palmer’s short-term future at Chelsea – and it involves the team he grew up supporting.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer for an initial £40 million, was one of the Premier League’s top performers last season.
In fact, after he netted 22 goals in England’s top flight, the 22-year-old forward was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in his hometown of Manchester.
After the ceremony on Tuesday night, Palmer opened up about his ambitions. “I want to win trophies with Chelsea, that is the main thing, and then the individual awards are nice,” he said.
“Life is great, I can’t complain. The whole season was a great season personally and hopefully, we can kick on this season.”
He added: “Everyone is excited. The squad is full of young players, we have a great manager and great staff so hopefully, we can have a good season.”
Palmer is clearly happy at Stamford Bridge as they try and move forward under new manager Enzo Maresca, but what if they fail to deliver in the coming months?
Jamie Carragher thinks a move could be on the cards for Palmer if Chelsea falter this season. In fact, the former Liverpool defender has backed the England international to join his boyhood club, Manchester United.
Speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Carragher gave his take.
“Something’s just come to me here,” he said. “If Chelsea have another poor season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing.
“He [Palmer] is a big Man United fan isn’t he? Would that not be something that United should visit maybe in 12 months if it doesn’t go well?”
Carragher added: “You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Man United.”

Palmer confessed to being a boyhood United supporter during an interview with TNT Sports last season, after Chelsea’s dramatic 4-3 win over Erik ten Hag’s side.
When asked if he was a United supporter, he replied: “Yeah, when I was growing up I was a United fan.”
The former Manchester City winger is also a big fan of United’s all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney. “What a player,” he said about Rooney.
“When I was growing up I used to watch all the football and the one that sticks in my mind is Rooney. Ever since I was a little kid he has been my footballing hero.”
