Man Utd fans think club have spoiled Kobbie Mainoo getting a new shirt number as major hint emerges

Kobbie Mainoo could receive a new shirt number at Manchester United next season.

Manchester United fans think the club have spoiled Kobbie Mainoo getting a new shirt number as a major hint has emerged following his return.

Mainoo has returned to Man United after earning a well-earned break following his campaign with England at Euro 2024.

He didn’t travel with the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States as he was granted an extended break after starting for the Three Lions against Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain at the Euros.

But Mainoo has joined his teammates for the club’s final bits of preparation ahead of the new season.

And ahead of the Red Devils kicking off their 2024/25 campaign, fans are convinced the 19-year-old is in line for a new shirt number.

Recent images show the star midfielder returning to Carrington without a number on his training gear – unlike his teammates Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Facundo Pellistri, who were all pictured with him

Shaw, Martinez and Pellistri sported their existing numbers of 23, 6 and 28 respectively.

Mainoo’s numberless training outfit sparked debate over whether he’s set to receive a new shirt number for the upcoming season.

One X user wrote: “He will get number 19.”

A second tweeted: “Give him the number 16 and change Diallo’w number to something else.”

A third added: “Looks like Mainoo might be getting a new shirt number.”

A fourth said: “He should get number 4.”

Another proposed: “Licha takes #4, and Mainoo for #6.”

Mainoo currently wears the No.37 shirt, with two first-team shirt numbers still available in No.3 and No.4.

No.13 and No.19 are also available with the latter available following Raphael Varane’s departure.

A new number could be on the cards for the teenager following his stunning emergence last season.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions as he became a regular starter under Erik ten Hag.
