The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in Phase Five and is currently exploring the ‘Multiverse Saga’. The saga that began after Avengers: Endgame is set to follow a similar pattern as the ‘Infinity Saga’, with a climactic ensemble to end the three-phase long storyline. The saga is set to end with the films Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. in Phase Six of the franchise.
However, unlike Avengers: Endgame, which was a culmination of ten years and over 21 films, Avengers: Secret Wars would require a lot more homework from the fans. The film is speculated to feature characters not just from the MCU, but also from Fox’s X-Men franchise and countless other Disney+ series that have been streaming and are yet to be released.
New MCU Members And The Avengers
In 2022, Kevin Feige announced that the two-part cinematic event film that would be Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars would be the culmination of the ‘Multiverse Saga’. Speculations began about which characters would appear in the film. Members of the MCU such as Spider-Man, America Chavez, and Doctor Strange have already interacted with the multiverse and could be the perfect characters to lead the team.
The original Avengers have sparsely appeared in the films post-Endgame, except for Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye. Hence, Avengers: Secret Wars would be the perfect film for them to team up again. While actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans are less likely to reprise their roles after their fates in Avengers: Endgame, other members of the team are still present in the cinematic universe.
Other characters such as War Machine, Nick Fury, and the new Captain America have made appearances in series such as Secret Invasion, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. Scott Lang a.k.a Ant-Man has also crossed paths with Kang in this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Writer of Avengers: Kang Dynasty Jeff Loveness in an interview with Screen Rant teased the appearance of Hawkeye and War Machine in the film.
Characters From Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Films
A still from Spider-Man: No Way Home
Other members of the MCU that are touted to appear are Tom Holland’s Spider-Man since no developments have been made since the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film also featured alternative Spider-Men, from previous iterations of the character such as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
Due to the multiversal nature of the storyline, the actors might just make an appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. Hence, knowing the events of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, as well as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, is essential. Since the films are produced by Sony, Tom Hardy’s Venom might also be integrated into the universe.
Doctor Strange, who also made an appearance in No Way Home and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness is probably one of the few heroes who could take down Kang the Conquerer and would definitely appear in the climatic films.
Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock a.k.a is all set to reprise his role in the MCU with the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, which reportedly has some remnants of the Netflix series Daredevil, making them all an essential watch for Avengers: Secret Wars. Murdock too made his MCU debut in
The X-Men Might Make Their Debut In Avengers: Secret Wars
X-Men
With Disney acquiring 21st Century Fox in 2019, the MCU could finally integrate Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four into the franchise. A Fantastic Four film is already in development and is all set to make its MCU debut in Phase Six, right before Avengers: Kang Dynasty. An alternative universe variant of Mr. Fantastic, played by John Krasinski was also introduced in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.
Professor X also appeared in the film, setting the stage for the presence of the X-Men in the MCU. The first X-Men-related film Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is currently in production and will be the official debut of the X-Men in the franchise.
The mutants could finally make their full-fledged appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. Since previous actors such as Jackman and Reynolds have been retained, the Fox movies could be canon in the MCU, making the 12 X-Men films a must-watch.
