The accompanying album cover displays hand-drawn artwork by Waterford artist Aaron Fahy. The creation depicts Lil Nas X — draped in a white robe and a pair of matching boots — holding the hand of a child, also dressed in white, while standing in a green field.  Fahy is still trying to process it all.

In an appearance on Newstalk Breakfast, Fahy remarked: “Last week on Instagram, I got a message from [Lil Nas X’s] creative director asking would I be interested in doing the artwork for this song.”

He continued: “I didn’t realise it was going to be a single and I thought it was something to do with his promotion work…I’m still trying to process it really.”

Speaking about his artistic experience, Fahy mentioned that he had been drawing for a long as he could remember. The artwork was created on an A4 sheet of paper using a crayon. With vibrant re-imaginings of past album covers and other music-centric art, Fahy had already drawn immense attraction on Instagram and from previous collaborations with music label 0207 Def Jam and The BBC.

The Waterford artist took to Instagram soon after Lil Nas X dropped the single to express his gratitude for the newfound exposure: “The last 24 hours have been wild! Thank you so much for all of the nice messages and comments, it’s been so overwhelming and heartwarming.

I honestly cannot thank you enough. It still feels really surreal now that it’s out, I made it in my bedroom in Ireland and it’s being seen all over the world which is mindblowing!”
