The new rendition of Cyrus’ 2013 pop smash is the sixth single from the Changing Tides campaign, which sees artists cover songs on environmental topics and raise their voices for a more sustainable future.
The project has so far seen reworked versions of tracks from Superlove (covering Enter Shikari’s ‘Arguing With Thermometers’), Sydney Sprague (covering Turnstile’s ‘Underwater Boi’), Telltale, Have Mercy and Izzy Mahoubi.
Have a listen below to the latest addition to the compilation, from The Dangerous Summer.
Speaking of their new track, AJ Perdomo has said:
“It is an honor to take part in Changing Tides, a great way to give back to a charity that is doing great work.”
“The Dangerous Summer has never done a cover before, so when I think of a great cover, I need to change it completely.
“I want to bring a song into The Dangerous Summer universe, and make it have the same heart as we have. I also love to make something that surprises people, and then gives a completely new perspective to a song that may be overlooked by our fans.
“‘We Can’t Stop is one of the most incredible songs, and definitely a club banger. When you peel back the layers of the track though, you really see the incredible amount of emotion in the song.
“In my thoughts, I feel like this is Miley Cyrus’ ‘Fuck Them All’. It is a punk rock anthem about freedom and life, and about taking control of your own narrative, and taking control of your own life.”
Rude Cares – the charitable branch of Rude Records – launched the Changing Tides compilation in February this year.
With each song, the label will donate profits to the cause of “raising awareness and make the world a better place” through music.
100% of collected funds with the distribution of the cover songs will benefit Sea Shepherd, which fights to defend, conserve and protect the ocean with direct action to defend marine wildlife and protect their habitat in the world’s oceans.
