Disney has revealed the budget for its latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Loki Season 2. Loki Season 2’s Budget has been revealed to be $141.3 million, which clocks in at least $23.5 million per episode.

While Loki‘s budget exceeds those of some of Marvel’s biggest hits (Iron Man at $130 million and Ant-Man at $140 million), it falls behind by quite a bit when compared to recent entries in the franchise, such as Secret Invasion ($212 million) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($200 million).

Big Budget, Big Mistake

As expensive as Secret Invasion was, the show was critically panned. Its lackluster pacing and what seemed to be a lack of a concrete vision left fans with a bad taste in their mouth. Secret Invasion aimed to adapt the critically acclaimed Secret Invasion comics event, which launched in 2008, following agents of the Skrull Empire infiltrating the Avengers and other key players that defend Earth from a myriad of threats.

Loki‘s second season has a budget that is significantly smaller than the Secret Invasion miniseries. This has come at a time when many are losing faith in the Marvel brand. 2023 has been a particularly disappointing year for Marvel, despite big releases like Secret Invasion, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The actual returns from the box office have fallen short of expectations, leading to some intensive cost management for Marvel’s parent company, Disney.

The first 2 episodes of Loki have already begun streaming, garnering acclaim from audiences and critics alike. With a talented and star-studded cast reprising their roles as beloved characters, fans of the series have high hopes for the show.

What we can expect from Loki Season 2

LokiLoki (Tom Hiddleston) in Marvel’s Loki

When we last left Loki in Season 1, he had found himself in an altered version of the TVA, where a statue of Kang adorned the facility, which had been previously absent. Loki’s new ally, Mobius M Mobius, did not recognize him, asking Loki for his department and designation.

What’s more, Sylvie had just pushed him through a Time Door, before killing He Who Remains at the End of Time.

In Season 2, Loki seems occupied with hunting down Sylvie and preventing He Who Remains’  Variants (Kang the Conqueror among them) from destroying the multiverse. There is also the missing judge, Revonna Renslayer, and the Time Variance Authority Mascot, Miss Minutes, to take into account. These two characters were implied to have a hand in the conspiracy surrounding the TVA. They have yet to make an appearance since the death of He Who Remains.

Loki Season 2 sees the return of Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie), Owen Wilson (Mobius), Wunmi Mosaku (Hunter B-15), Tara Strong (Miss Minutes) and Jonathan Majors (He Who Remains, Victor Timely). Also returning to reprise their roles from season 1 are Gugu Mbatha- Raw (Revonna Renslayer) and Eugene Cordero (Casey),

Joining them is critically acclaimed talents like Ke Huy Quan (O.B.), Rafael Casal (Hunter X-5), and Kate Dickie (General Dox).

The first two episodes of Loki Season 2 are now streaming on Disney+
