Jason Kelce has shed some light on the viral clip of Philadelphia Eagles players’ reaction to making the Pro Bowl, revealing on New Heights that it is an ‘honor’ to get the call – regardless of how it may have looked!
The Eagles players who made the cut last week went viral on social media after they all failed to crack a smile when told the news – with fans joking that none of them looked as though they wanted to have to fly down to Orlando for the annual game.
To the contrary, though, Kelce has now explained the reason for their glum faces – and why he was the only one to even remotely crack a smile.
‘Obviously it’s an incredible honor,’ he told brother Travis on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. ‘I think it comes at a point in the season when the building has been pretty frustrated with their performances as of late.
‘So I think there’s a video making the rounds where pretty much nobody is smiling. I think I’m the only one who cracks a smile because I was happy my man Lane Johnson got announced…

‘But it’s always an honor. I think Landon [Dickerson], when you see a guy that isn’t up in the fan vote, but still goes because the players and coaches all voted for him… I think that speaks really highly of the guy.
‘For us, all five of our starting line is either in it or an alternate. You put a lot of work into it and to see that other people think pretty highly of what you’re doing is pretty sweet to hear.’
Eagles center Kelce is the 23rd offensive lineman in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl at least seven times, and 22 of those have gone on to make the Hall of Fame.
It is expected that Kelce himself will be a immediate entry to the Hall of Fame when he is eligible post-retirement – but he and the Eagles still have a playoff campaign to deal with before that becomes a thought in his mind.
The Eagles face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round this weekend, looking to seal a spot in the Divisional round.
