Andrew Garfield is both a great Spider-Man and Peter Parker. He played Spider-Man in two Sony Pictures films, The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012 and two years later in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And he totally rocked the whole teenage superhero deal – like balancing homework and saving the city.
Spider-Man’s last flick, No Way Home, is like the ultimate high-five to two decades of Spidey stories by Sony. It’s actually the eighth time they’ve brought Peter Parker to life on the big screen.
Andrew Garfield is Not a Liar, He is Just a Fibber
Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, and Tobey Maguire
Andrew Garfield deserves a round of sympathy — as the star tried so hard to keep his Spider-Man: No Way Home appearance under wraps. So many nosy journalists hounded him during interviews about this, while he was trying to talk about other stuff.
He compared himself to playing Werewolf and doesn’t see himself lying but actually fibbing. So, he is not a liar — he’s just a “fibber.”
In an interview with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire for Deadline, Garfield blew the gaff. He talked about being in No Way Home and how awesome the movie is. Plus, he fessed up about all that fibbing he had to do to keep his cameo a secret:
“I justified my unethical lying behavior.”
“I call it fibbing more than lying, but I kind of enjoyed it. It was quite fun, and it felt like that game Werewolf or Mafia where, you know, you’re the werewolf and you have to convince everyone that you’re not. So I kind of turned it into a little bit of a game for myself… even though there were all these leaks and all this stuff happening, I think there was enough doubt in everyone’s mind going, ‘Oh, god, what if it isn’t? What if they don’t show up? So when we did, it kind of gave them that little extra little bit of icing on top.”
The Hacksaw Ridge actor also spoke about his extended cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He discussed his return to the franchise and teaming up with the OG Spidey Tobey Maguire to help out Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in saving the multiverse.
Andrew Garfield compared Spider-Man: No Way Home to an Indie Trilogy Film
Spiderman-Man: No Way Home
Andrew Garfield spilled more secrets in the same interview with Deadline. He said that the Spider-Man trilogy feels like an indie film trilogy. Peter Parker is fascinating because he is just a kid from Queens who’s trying to make ends meet and doing his superhero job. So, the 80s indie vibe in the homecoming movies is the perfect match for the character.
Garfield shared a sweet memory of sneaking into the cinema with Maguire to watch the movie with fans (without fans being aware they were there). The actor said he “was in pieces” while watching “classic Peter Parker,” but it was “totally fresh and totally reimagined.”
