Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Jackman announced their divorce in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the parents of two told PEOPLE on Sept. 15 in an exclusive statement.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

The couple had met just two years prior on the set of Australian TV show Correlli, and Jackman recalled falling for her almost immediately. They were married the next year and are pictured here attending an Australian awards show together.

Over the course of their 27 years of marriage, the two have shared throwback photos from their wedding, where Deborra-lee wore a pearl choker and Hugh wore white tie.

“Being married to you Deb is as natural as breathing,” Hugh wrote when sharing this photo on their 25th anniversary.

“It gets better and better, I can honestly say that,” Hugh once told Ellen DeGeneres of the pair’s marriage. “She’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me.”

The actor frequently posted loving tributes to his wife on his social media, including this post for their 26th anniversary. “Today I celebrate 26 years of marriage to my extraordinary wife. Every single day is filled with so much laughter, joy and backgammon!!!!” he captioned this one.
