Chris Evans made his debut in the MCU as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger. The film became a hit and Evans would soon become synonymous with the role of Captain America. He has since gone on to portray the role in further MCU films such as The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. The character was the backbone of the MCU along with Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and the two shepherded the storyline and led the other characters throughout the Infinity Saga.
Evans has earned a large chunk of income from doing these big-budgeted MCU films. But a comparison with the two other leading actors of the MCU i.e. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth seems to put an interesting observation about how much they were paid for their debut films in the MCU.
Chris Evans Was the Second Highest Paid Among The Trio
Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr
Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, and Chris Hemsworth were the pillars of the MCU during The Infinity Saga. The three led the narrative of the interconnected world of the MCU and were the central figures in the fight against Thanos. But each of them had humble beginnings concerning their salaries with their debut MCU films. According to ScreenRant, Evans earned $300k for Captain America; The First Avenger, Downey earned $500k for Iron Man and Hemsworth earned $150k for Thor.
This puts Evans in the middle between the two MCU stars when comparing their first salaries in their debut Marvel projects. With subsequent films, their earnings increased and they received their biggest paychecks in later MCU films. According to another report from ScreenRant, their biggest salaries were $15 million for Evans in Avengers: Endgame, $20 million for Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder, and a whopping $75 million for Downey Jr in Avengers: Endgame.
Chris Evans Agrees With Quentin Tarantino’s Recent Claims Regarding the MCU
Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Tarantino recently said that in the MCU, the Marvel characters are the real stars of the films and not the actors who embody those characters. Chris Evans agreed with the director’s statements, telling GQ,
“That was the beauty of working on Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. Even in your own films sometimes. Quentin Tarantino said it recently and I was like, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You’re there, but you don’t feel the burden of it.”
He also revealed in the same interview that he wouldn’t mind returning to the role of Captain America if the script was right and in a way that does not tarnish the legacy he left behind with the character. Evans has two upcoming films including Netflix’s Pain Hustlers opposite Emily Blunt and Amazon’s Red One alongside Dwayne Johnson.
