Caitlin Clark’s Boyfriend Has a Simple Response After She’s Named AP Rookie of the Year: ‘Duh’
The Indiana Fever phenom was unanimously selected for the Associated Press’ 2024 award
Connor McCaffery is a proud boyfriend!
After Caitlin Clark was named the unanimous Associated Press rookie of the year, the WNBA star’s boyfriend, McCaffery, shared his simple but sweet reaction to the 22-year-old’s accolade.
Liking and resharing the Indiana Fever’s post announcing Clark’s honor, McCaffery — who recently took an assistant coaching position on Butler University’s men’s basketball team — wrote, “Duh,” in a post on his Instagram Stories, suggesting that there was no one more worthy of the honor.
Clark was unanimously named the AP’s rookie of the year on Sunday, Sept. 22, after the rookie phenom’s excellent debut season.
She was also included in the AP’s All-WNBA first team alongside Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson, and selected for the AP All-Rookie Team with Angel Reese and Rickea Jackson.
The sweet support from McCaffery comes just one week after Clark celebrated his new role on Butler University’s team in a post on social media. McCaffery previously worked for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers — who also play at the Fever’s home arena Gainbridge Fieldhouse — as a team assistant before landing the job at Butler.
In a post on her Instragam Stories on Sept. 17, Clark shared the news of her boyfriend’s new job and wrote, “Yayyy!!! So happy for you 🤍,” alongside the official post from Butler.
McCaffery, a fellow Iowa Hawkeye alum, and Clark first made their relationship public in August 2023 when the Fever star shared a sweet photo of the couple on a boat, captioned, “Best end to summer.”

Clark played her first playoff game in the WNBA on Sunday, Sept. 22, the same day she was named AP’s rookie of the year. The Fever star struggled in her postseason debut and the Connecticut Sun defeated Indiana 93-69 in the first game of their series.

Clark suffered an injury to her eye and was clearly in pain after a collision with DiJonai Carrington on Sunday.
In her postgame interview, Clark told reporters, while sporting a black eye, “Obviously, she got me pretty good in the eye,” but the rookie denied that the incident was why her team struggled.
“I don’t think it affected me,” Clark said of the eye poke. “I got good shots, they didn’t go down. It’s a tough time for that to happen. Had three wide open in first half that I usually make. It didn’t feel good when it happened but I don’t think it affected me.”
