Missing Child Featured On Netflix Show Found After 7 Years! Kidnappers Screwed Up!

This mystery has officially been solved.

Nearly a decade after Abdul Aziz Khan (pictured above) went missing he was miraculously found by police on February 23. You may have seen the child’s story on a 2022 episode of Netflix‘s Unsolved Mysteries, where he was reported to have first gone missing from Georgia in 2017. At the time, police believed his mom Rabia Khalid and her husband Elliot Blake Bourgeois had fled with the 7-year-old to avoid a custody hearing.

Georgia law enforcement theorized his mom pulled him out of school the Friday before Thanksgiving 2017, packed up their stuff, and left. Her apartment was left abandoned and neither she, nor her husband, were seen again… until now!

According to KDVR, a homeowner in Colorado saw some suspicious activity on their vacant home’s security camera back in February, which led to them calling police. Upon the arrival of officers, they found two children sitting in a car while two adult suspects were exiting the home. The two suspects allegedly tried to lie their way out of the pickle they were in, claiming they were realtors. But their lies quickly unraveled after they were separated — and their stories didn’t match up!

The two adults were taken into custody, and per reports, they were identified as Khalid and Bourgeois after hours of questioning. As for the children? While one has not been identified, the other was shockingly named as the now 14-year-old Abdul. Amazing!

We’re so glad to hear Abdul was found safe! Both 40-year-old Khalid and 42-year-old Bourgeois are being held in custody on a $1 million bond. Both children who were in the vehicle have also been taken into custody and are currently awaiting on the court to decide who they’ll be released to.

During a press conference, officials stated they still have “a lot of work” ahead of them. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly told the outlet he was proud of the deputies’ outstanding work with this case:

“Their ability to recognize the discrepancies in the suspects’ story and to follow the leads, even when the situation seemed unclear, ultimately led to the safe recovery of a child who had been missing for seven long years. I couldn’t be prouder of the work done by our team; this case highlights the commitment of our officers to seek justice and protect the most vulnerable. It’s a reminder of the incredible difference our work makes in the lives of those we serve.”

Meanwhile, Abdul’s family released a statement saying they are “overwhelmed with joy” that their little one is safe and sound:

“We specifically want to recognize the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional work in solving this case. Now, as we navigate the next steps, we ask for privacy so that we can move forward as a family and heal together.”

In addition to the family’s celebrations, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children was overjoyed Abdul was found safe, and praised the deputies’ “keen instincts”. VP of the Missing Children Division John Bischoff III said:

“In family abduction cases, it can be difficult to garner public attention, but we knew that national media coverage was crucial—Aziz could have been anywhere. Thanks to the deputies’ keen instincts and the attention of both law enforcement and the public, Aziz is now safe. We know family reunifications can be challenging. As Aziz and his family reconnect and heal, NCMEC will continue to support them.”

What an amazing story! It’s not often we get to hear such good news with missing child cases. We send our love to Abdul and his family.
