Sabrina Ionescu shares Caitlin Clark WNBA dream with Steph Curry admission

WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu has named Caitlin Clark as her dream partner when she discussed taking on NBA legend Stephen Curry in a repeat of their three-point competition

WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu revealed her Caitlin Clark dream as she spoke about a potential showdown with NBA icon Stephen Curry.

The New York Liberty WNBA champion spoke about her basketball matchup with the Golden State Warriors legend in the first-ever NBA vs WNBA three-point challenge. Shooting with WNBA basketballs from the NBA three-point line, Ionescu drained her first seven threes and registered a final score of 26.

However, it was not enough as Curry scored 29 points to win the inaugural ‘Stephen vs Sabrina’ competition. But it appears that the 26-year-old is out for revenge and could be looking to bring along help in the contest.

Ionescu made a guest appearance on the college football show ‘B1G Tailgate’ which aired from her former college campus in Oregon. During her appearance, the WNBA champion discussed the possibility of competing in another three-pointer contest against NBA stars after playing against Warriors icon Curry in the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend.

The conversation soon turned to who Ionescu would want to partner in a potential 2-on-2 matchup against Curry. The show’s host Tyvis Powell mentioned about the chance of Curry linking up with his former team-mate Klay Thompson in a two-on-two in what would be a formidable scoring duo.

Having the pick of the WNBA’s greatest talent, Ionescu didn’t hesitate to name her dream partner. “I mean, if I would have to choose, I’m taking Caitlin Clark on my team,” Ionescu said.

While a potential NBA All-Star shooting event isn’t confirmed, the thought of Ionescu and Clark teaming up would be an exciting situation. The pair were two of the most lethal long-range shooters in the WNBA last season as they both ranked top five across the league in three-pointers made and attempted.

Ionescu’s choice would also seem to be the obvious selection with Clark ranking first in both of those categories in her record-breaking year. The WNBA couldn’t wish to hand pick two other talents to take on the duo who earned the nickname ‘Splash Brothers’ during their time together at the Warriors for their three-point shooting ability.

The Liberty star previously made a dig about her absence from the WNBA First Team as she was named in the second batch of players, behind Clark, in the voting. After starring in the Finals, she made a sarcastic comment about being overlooked. “That was just a great All-WNBA Second Team performance,” she said, causing the media members in the room to break into laughter.
