When you’re a massive movie star, people are going to have an assortment of opinions about you. This is definitely the case with the undeniably attractive Julia Roberts who has been in some of the biggest movies in the world. While Roberts has many fans, she also has a large number of people who believe that she’s an overrated actor.

Regardless, people want to know what Julia Roberts is like IRL. And a lot can be discovered about her based on the way she allegedly treats her staff. But there are a number of great behind-the-scenes facts from the sets of her movies that reveal much about her true character. They also give us a good idea of what her castmates think of her. But perhaps nobody has been as vocal about how challenging Julia Roberts can be than Curb Your Enthusiasm star, Jeff Garlin.

Jeff Told His Julia Roberts Story To Howard Stern

In January 2014, The Goldbergs and Curb Your Enthusiasm actor went on the legendary Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM. This is where most celebrities have spilled some of their deepest secrets or have straight-up been uncomfortably honest. Howard Stern has that effect on people. It’s incredible actually.

During his appearance on the long-running radio show, Jeff Garlin described his experience working with Julia Roberts and how it resulted in a pretty hilarious feud.

For those who don’t know, Jeff filmed two minor character roles (one of which was Harvey Weinstein) in Steven Soderbergh’s 2002 film Full Frontal which starred David Duchovny, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts.

For the record, Jeff Garlin didn’t volunteer this story freely. But Howard Stern caught him while he was feeling extra comfortable at the end of the hour-long interview…

“Did you work with Julia Roberts?” Stern asked casually.

“Oh, man! You have good people, man! You have good people!” Garlin then started to laugh about just how good Howard Stern’s research team was for uncovering the secret behind-the-scenes story.

“You f****r!” Garlin told the acclaimed radio host. “I’ll go there though! I’ll go there!”

“You’re fearless.”

“I’m a big bowl of fearless”, Garlin laughed. “I did a movie called Full Frontal. Steven Soderbergh. Okay. And in the movie, I play two people. Harvey Weinstein and myself.”

Garlin then explained that he was very excited to film with Julia Roberts. After all, she was a humungous star.

When they weren’t filming, Roberts was telling stories and talking to everyone… except Jeff Garlin. And he was one of only three other actors in the scene. In fact, he said that she wouldn’t even make eye-contact with him.

It was like she thought that he was absolute filth.

“I’m thinking ‘what the f***?’ What did I do?”, he told Howard Stern.

Later on, Garlin said that he approached Roberts in the hall and told her what an honor it was to work with her. But she totally brushed him off again. Garlin said that it was as if he had just called her the worst names imaginable.

Garlin then pulled one of the other actors aside and told him what happened… The actor (who Garlin didn’t name) seemed somewhat shocked.

The next day, Garlin returned to set to film another scene with Julia Roberts, as well as Brad Pitt. And the actor Garlin had confided in about his experience with Roberts had inquired about it…

“You were right.” The unnamed actor told Garlin. “She said that she would see you in a restaurant one day and say, ‘I don’t know who that is. But I know I don’t like him’…”

She gave no reason for her behavior beyond that.

Garlin explained to Howard Stern that his second scene with Julia Roberts was even worse. He claimed that Roberts was being extremely nice to Brad Pitt and the other actors who sat around a dinner table to film the highly-improvised scene…

But she was still acting “terrible” to him.

“At a certain point she said something to me and I looked at her and I went, ‘f*** you!’…And she goes, ‘What?’ And I go, ‘What is wrong with you? Why are you being so rude to me?’ And she said to me, ‘you know, I’d see you in a restaurant someday…’ And I went, ‘I know, you’d look at me and you’d go ‘I don’t like that guy’… Well, I don’t need to be friends with you. I’ve got a full life. I don’t know what the f*** is wrong with you!”

Immediately after, they started to film.

In the scene, everyone was supposed to share their adult star names; which is the combination of the name of their first pet and the street they grew up on.

When they finally got to Garlin, they asked, “What’s your porn name?”

“I said ‘Baron Von Huge C***’. And I said ‘What? My dog’s name was Baron and I lived on Von Huge C*** Avenue’…”

The line actually made the cut of the movie, probably because it made Julia Roberts burst out in laughter.

“From that moment on [Julia Roberts] loves me. Loves me! But it’s too late, baby!”

Garlin said that he let the negative interaction go, but he had no interest in being a sycophant after he was treated to poorly.

Then Garlin Told The Press

Months later, Garlin was doing press for Curb in Boston. He was speaking to a radio host who had no interest in him… But he did want to know what Garlin’s experience with Julia Roberts… So, he told him…

Garlin immediately regretted the decision. The press picked up on the story and it was a headline… Roberts was going to find out…

One day, Garlin returned home to his casting director wife, who shared a message on their answering machine… It was Julia Roberts. And she was just laying into him. Screaming hysterically. She was furious!

Soon after, Garlin found out that his wife had hired a Julia Roberts impersonator to leave the message in order to teach him a lesson.

But Jeff Garlin no longer regrets telling this story. He says he told the truth about Roberts. Luckily for him, the two have never actually crossed paths again.
