American actor and musician Macaulay Culkin is probably best known for starring as Kevin McCallister in the first two films of the Home Alone franchise. In 2020, he told Esquire: “I enjoy acting. I enjoy being on set. I don’t enjoy a lot of the other things that come around it. What’s a good analogy? The Shawshank Redemption. The way he gets out of prison is to crawl through a tube of shit, you know?
“It feels like to get to that kind of freedom, I’d have to crawl through a tube of shit. And you know what? I’ve built a really nice prison for myself. It’s soft. It’s sweet. It smells nice. You know? It’s plush.”
In 2000, he starred as Madame Melville in London’s West End before taking a grittier role as murderer Michael Alig in the 2003 film Party Monster.
Outside of the acting world, Culkin has received an MTV Movie Award from three nominations (Best Kiss and Best in 1992 for My Girl and Best Villain in 1994 for The Good Son) and a Young Artist Award in 1991 for Home Alone. He also wrote an autobiography, Junior, which was published in 2006.
In 2013, Culkin co-founded the New York comedy rock band the Pizza Underground, of which he was the vocalist. In 2016, the group split up.
He is currently the publisher and CEO of Bunny Ears, a satirical pop culture website and podcast.
