Fans of the movie Home Alone had the opportunity to live in the house of little Kevin McCallister.

Home Alone is a classic comedy that turned Macaulay Culkin into one of the most famous child actors of his time. Even now, after 32 years, Home Alone is still popular and is watched by many people, especially at Christmas.

The story of 8-year-old boy Kevin McCallister – who is accidentally left behind by his family during the holiday to protect his home from two thieves – is one of the best Christmas movies of all time.

But not only did Culkin become a star when the film was released, the McCallister house became a sought-after location. The house chosen as the main filming location of Home Alone was chosen very carefully and it was clearly extremely suitable.

The McCallister family home is a real suburban house

Built in 1920, the house in Winnetka, Illinois is owned by John and Cynthia Abendshien. In the late 80s, the film production company asked the couple to sublease their house to use as a filming location for Home Alone. Director Chris Columbus once shared that finding a house suitable for the script was not an easy job: “We needed to create a house suitable for dangerous filming and also a house visually attractive. It has to be both warm and spooky. It’s the kind of house where if you were a kid, you’d be happy to be home alone.”

The scene in the movie Home Alone is familiar to many generations of children

The Abendshien family remained living in this house for the 4 – 5 months Home Alone was filmed. Later, little Laura Abendshien – the daughter of the homeowner couple – even went on TV to talk about her experience growing up in such an iconic house.

Currently, the Home Alone house is located at 671 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka city, Illinois. One interesting tidbit is that it has been blurred on Google Maps, likely by the new owners to prevent uninvited fans from compromising privacy.

The red-brick, Georgian-style house is located on a half-acre plot and has a built-up area of about 390 square meters. It has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms.

However, for the first time in 32 years, the Home Alone house was suddenly opened to the public on Christmas 2021. Fans of the movie can book a room here for a vacation. The house can accommodate up to 4 people for only 25 USD/night (about 600,000 VND).

To round out the experience, the actor who plays Kevin McCallister’s brother, Buzz, will be the one to greet guests. Even though 3 decades have passed, the inside of the house is still exactly like the movie with brilliant Christmas decorations. Even items from the 90s and details that appeared in the movie have been recreated to give visitors the most nostalgic experience.
