The blockbuster film comprised an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Helmed by one of the best filmmakers, Martin Scorsese, it did great in theatres.
Due to the film’s massive success, rumors circulated at the time that the helmer had already given the green light to its sequel however the former eventually clarified the rumors.
He shared that he and writer, William Monahan approached Warner Bros for the sequel however it didn’t go well. The pitching session happened after the movie won major film awards, which was the peak time for them to get approval.
He shared,
“Let’s just say the pitch didn’t go very well. He [Monahan] really didn’t have anything fleshed out, but he’s the kind of guy you just trust to go and write something.”
The duo has worked on some of the scripts together which is why they had hoped that that pitch would work out however it happened otherwise.
