Megan Fox Saved Machine Gun Kelly's Life Amid Mental Health Crisis

Machine Gun Kelly is known for being open about his mental health, and the singer recently revealed that his fiancé Megan Fox helped him through a dark time when he was contemplating self-harm. In fact, Kelly credits her for saving his life.

“I wouldn’t leave my room and I started getting really, really, really dark,” the rocker explained in his new documentary Life in Pink, which debuted on the streaming platform on June 27. Kelly explained that the dark period happened in July 2020, shortly after his father had died.

“Megan went to Bulgaria to shoot a movie and I started getting this really wild paranoia,” he continued. “Like, I kept getting paranoid that someone was gonna come and kill me.”

How Megan Responded To Kelly’s Self-Harm Threats

Kelly went on to say that his mental health deteriorated to the point where he “snapped.” Feeling as though he may harm himself, the singer said he called Megan to confess his feelings. “I was like, ‘You aren’t here for me.’ I’m in my room and I’m, like, freaking out on her,” Kelly, who says he used to sleep with a shotgun near him, explained.

He went on, “Dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth. And I’m yelling on the phone and, like, the barrel’s in my mouth. And I go to cock the shotgun and the bullet, as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan’s, like, dead silent.”

While Kelly didn’t elaborate on what Megan said to him to help him calm down, he admitted that the actress helped him see “something is not right.” He added that his daughter Casie, 12, also helped him realize he needed help.

“[They said], ‘I want to, like, see you as my father’ and ‘I want to see you as my husband-to-be,’ and I was like, ‘I need to kick the drugs for real this time,’” he said.

Kelly and Megan originally met in March 2020 on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass. They confirmed their romance several years later after it was announced Megan’s marriage to Brian Austin Green was over. Kelly and Megan got engaged last January.

Last December, Kelly opened up to Drew Barrymore on her talk show about the challenges he’s faced with his mental health over the years. “I think I’m new to being vulnerable outside of songs. I see a lot of pictures of me and there’s like, smiles on them,” he explained. “It’s just weird though because I didn’t feel good at all that day and I kind of am sick of smiling on days when I don’t feel like smiling.”

He added, “A lot of what I do is for other people and I haven’t given myself the time to just accept that it’s okay to not be okay.”
