Mark Wahlberg has starred in various films under different genres, but the actor has not yet made his debut in a superhero movie.

As an action star, fans might be wondering why he would not venture into such type of projects seeing how successful they perform at the box office.

He has appeared in several blockbuster movies and popular franchises, such as Planet of the ApesTransformers: Age of Extinction, and Uncharted. Indeed, his skills fit for an action-adventure movie would come in handy if he ever stars in a Marvel or DC film.

Mark Wahlberg Responds To Why He Never Starred In Any Superhero Movies

While Mark Wahlberg never tried joining any comic book film, he has voiced a superhero character in 2020’s Scoob!, lending his talent to The Blue Falcon. This was the closest thing he did that would fall under the said genre, and while he did a great job here, the movie failed to impress the viewers.

In an interview with CinePop, the Mile 22 star revealed why he avoids superhero roles:
I like them enough, I’m not one of those purists who is like ‘Oh this is not cinema.’ I think the audiences decide and obviously, they [superhero movies] have been wildly successful. It’s just that for me, personally, as an actor, I would have a really hard time walking out of my trailer with a cape on, and a spandex suit.”

He does not essentially look down on the genre or its popularity, but he emphasized that the spandex costume is not his thing. Wahlberg’s passion project, The Six Million Dollar Man, was a film “grounded on reality,” something that he takes into consideration when accepting proposals. He added:
It was grounded in reality and you felt like it would be much more believable as being realistic, to me, to be able to play that part, and feel like ‘I could do this,’ in a way that didn’t feel silly. But you never know: maybe the right part will come along!
Perhaps the actor thought that comic book movies are, in some way, “silly” because they have elements that do not exist in real life. His closing statement suggests, though, that there is a slight chance he might say yes to a superhero role if he finds the script and character appealing enough to his taste.

What Kind Of Superhero Role Would Mark Wahlberg Accept?

Although the tight-fitting costumes, flying stunts, and magical effects do not entice Wahlberg, he appeared in a live-action movie adaptation of the famous video game Uncharted with Tom Holland.

His enthusiasm for his part in the action-adventure thriller indicates the type of role he would potentially accept if he finally stars in a superhero movie. If being the main hero or villain does not captivate his curiosity, portraying a human sidekick might persuade the actor to sign up.

His lengthy career in action films would undoubtedly serve him well in the realm of heroes and otherworldly villains.
