In the Simon Cellan Jones-directed movie, Dan, a suburban dad is compelled to pack his wife, teen daughter, teen son, and 10-month-old baby into their minivan for an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas after his blood-laden past catches up to him. The reactions The Family Plan has received so far from viewers suggest Dan’s trip and adventure with his family is unlikely to stop with just one chapter.

Mark Wahlberg’s The Family Plan 2 Seems Like a Real Possibility

Dan’s attempts to hide his true identity as a former assassin and his hilarious plan to escape from his adversaries have combined to great effect.

The Family Plan is being received incredibly well by streaming viewers, with a report from Deadline claiming it debuted as the most-viewed movie ever for the service and has now become the most-watched movie in Apple TV+ history.

As things stand, competition for viewing figures is relatively less intense on Apple’s streaming platform than on Netflix or Prime Video due to their respective libraries. However, leaving behind the likes of Ghosted – which featured superstars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas – and CODA – which won Best Motion Picture of the Year at the Oscars – is still no mean feat.

Accordingly, The Family Plan fans are now hoping for another minivan trip. So far, no Apple TV+ feature film has gotten a sequel, but the performance of the Walhberg starrer combined with the services’ desire to expand its library might soon change that.

The pair have also worked together in Arthur the King, which is slated for a 2024 release. Speaking about his experience of directing back-to-back Mark Wahlberg movies, Simon Cellan Jones told The Hollywood Reporter:
“I don’t know, but I’m pretty happy about it. The film we did before The Family Plan, Arthur the King, is coming out in March, and it’s a slightly smaller movie.

It was one of those movies where I knew Mark a little bit, and I knew people who worked with him, but we’d never done anything. It was the time of the pandemic, things got a bit crazy and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time for Arthur the King. They needed someone urgently, and I was there.”
This adventure story is based on Mikael Lindnord’s life and memoir, Arthur — The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home. It chronicles the racer’s bond with a stray dog during an endurance challenge.
