While promoting his new film, The Family Plan, the actor got candid on the fate of his dream movie and how he is still hustling after all these years to make it a reality.

Wanting to create a reboot of the highly successful ABC series’ The Six Billion Dollar Man has been Wahlberg’s dream plan for years. But ever since Warner Bros had it shelved from its release schedule back in 2018, the fate of the film has been hanging by a thread. But still holding on to it is the Transformers star, who is keen to continue on the path that many perceive as a dead end.

The Six Billion Dollar Man ran between 1973 to 1978 and ranked as one of the top shows throughout the time it ran. Based on the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, the show featured actor Lee Majors as a bionic individual with superhuman abilities thanks to the various cutting-edge technological implants he had received.

Wanting to star as Steve Austin, Lee’s character, Wahlberg’s plans for the reboot crashed back in 2018 and ever since then, the movie’s fate has been lingering in uncertainty. During a recent interview with Collider, Mark Wahlberg stated that he is still optimistic about the project since Skydance, the co-producer of his latest movie, has been working to acquire the rights to his ‘dream movie’.
“You know what, I think there is finally hope for that to happen. And I think it’s kind of actually a lot to do with this movie, because hopefully Skydance will have the rights, if not fully buttoned up now, very soon, and we’ll fast track that movie to get made. So, I’m still not out of the fight, I’m still grinding every day to get it made. You know, its tough to get certain things made it’s very difficult, it was an uphill battle, but I think certain ones are worth just seeing through to the end.”

Despite the many roadblocks it is facing, the Pain & Gain star remains hopeful about the movie being made this time.

Mark Wahlberg’s The Six Billion Dollar Man has been riddled with roadblocks since the very beginning. Now hopefully in the hands of David Ellison, the producer behind Top Gun: Maverick, Wahlberg is hopeful his dream movie will finally come through this time.

Now starting back from scratch, a new script is being developed as the acquisition of the rights process is still in the works. While speaking to Collider, the actor is excited about starting anew,
“But I’m excited because nobody does action better than David and everybody, and Dana (Goldberg) and those guys at Skydance, so I couldn’t be more excited about the possibility.”
As the development process is still underway, it would still take some good 2-3 years for the movie to be released.
