Julia Roberts Joined Ticket to Paradise To Embarrass George Clooney

During an interview, Julia Roberts revealed the true reason why she joined the cast of Ticket to Paradise. The actress simply wanted to get paid to irritate George Clooney.

She joked, stating that she loved the idea of watching the A-List actor pining over her the entire movie. The two play a divorced couple who follow their daughter on vacation to stop her from impulsively getting married, all the while trying to tolerate each other.

“Just the chance to be really snarky to George jumped out at me,” she says, laughing. “Just to see him so pathetically in love with me.”

Roberts and Clooney have been friends for many years and have even worked together in the past on the Oceans franchise, where Roberts appeared in two films, Ocean’s Eleven, and Ocean’s Twelve. Interestingly, the two played a separated couple in this franchise as well.

George Clooney Would Only Do Ticket To Paradise With Julia Roberts

During this interview, Geroge Clooney talked about how he, Julia Roberts, and Steven Soderbergh, the director of the Oceans franchise, sat on the floor of a hotel and joked around for five hours, adding that he and the Pretty Woman actress simply share that type of a relationship.

The two are such close friends that the actor could not imagine doing Ticket to Paradise with anyone else but her.

“We met with Steven Soderbergh, and we sat on the floor of a hotel and made jokes for about five hours. For us it’s always been fairly easy, you know?” Clooney says.

“I remember reading [Ticket to Paradise] and calling Julia and I said ‘It only works if you do it’, and she said the same thing, so luckily it worked out. It was lucky nonsense. But it’s fun to work with friends. And Julia.
Clooney mentioned that when he went to initially read the script of the film, he knew right away that Roberts would be the perfect fit for the role.

When he asked her about this project, Roberts agreed with him and joined the project. He then went on to say that he is glad that the movie ended up the way that it did as he had a lot of fun working with his friends.
