The award-winning actress was born in the pretty little town of Smyrna, Georgia. Her parents, Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts, were also actors. The couple worked with aspiring actors and writers when Roberts was a little girl, but divorced in 1971.

Roberts loved animals, and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian one day. By the time she graduated from high school, however, she had other ideas. Both her brother and sister were pursuing acting careers, and Roberts decided to try her hand at the family business.

In 1988, movie-goers everywhere fell in love with the young and fiery Daisy in Mystic Pizza. Roberts’ performance in this quirky 80s film made her stand out in a way that few other actors ever do. This talented newcomer had incredible charm, plucky wit, and an infectious laugh. Add in the girl-next-door beauty, and she became purely unstoppable.

The following year found Roberts sharing the big screen with Sally Field in Steel Magnolias. In 1991, she played everyone’s favorite call-girl in Pretty Woman. The delightful romantic comedy cemented Roberts’ place as a leading lady in Hollywood.

In 2001, Roberts finally won an Academy Award (despite being nominated for both Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman) for her outstanding performance in the legal drama, Erin Brockovich.

The film portrayed the true story of a single mother who helped expose a utility company for poisoning the groundwater of a small California town. Erin Brockovich marked another milestone for Roberts, when she became the first woman to earn a $20 million salary for a film.

In addition to having a stellar professional career, Roberts also has a beautiful family. The actress met her husband Daniel Moder on the set of The Mexican, and they married two years later. The cozy couple is still as happy as ever, sharing a wonderful life with their three children–twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, and Henry.
