Alongside the Mad Max: Fury Road actress was Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart, Sam Claflin, and several other notable actors. Being an ensemble cast, the actors had different paychecks, which is quite understandable. What’s not understandable is the fact that there was a pay gap for Charlize Theron due to genderism in Hollywood. Talking about it in an interview with Elle, the actress stated that she had to be vocal about equal pay in the 2016 film.
“I have to give them credit because once I asked, they said yes. They did not fight it. And maybe that’s the message: That we just need to put our foot down. This is a good time for us to bring this to a place of fairness, and girls need to know that being a feminist is a good thing.”
She further continued,
“It doesn’t mean that you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way.”
The actress also openly spoke about how she was objectified in her first movie. Recalling the traumatic experience, Theron spoke defiantly about how she had to take a break from Hollywood for 2 years.

Talking about her first major role, the actress starred in a film titled 2 Days in the Valley. The 1996 movie saw Theron portraying the role of Helga Svelgen and after a while, she realized that the movie was objectifying her. She further shared in the same Elle interview
“Someone thought it was a good idea to market almost the entire movie on me; objectifying me a little bit. I got a lot of attention from it, but the problem was that, afterwards, it was like, “We want you to do that again. Can you just do that? And so I didn’t work for almost two years.”’
After the break, the actress later took her brave step and returned to Hollywood. Charlize Theron found fame later on by starring in several roles and also won an Oscar in 2004 alongside two other nominations.
