Mark Wahlberg starred alongside George Clooney, Diane Lane, and John C. Reilly among others in the 2000 biographical disaster drama The Perfect Storm.

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name, the movie follows a commercial fishing vessel, Andrea Gail, that was caught in the 1991 storm and was lost in the sea.

Wahlberg portrayed the character of Bobby Shatford who was also among one of the victims of the storm.

While talking about some of his most iconic characters, the Ted star shared that while working on the film he grew a liking to sushi, which later led him to get seasick and puke in between his lines.

Breaking down his most iconic characters during a GQ special, Mark Wahlberg shared that he was introduced to sushi while working on the 2000 film The Perfect Storm.

He shared that filmmakers David O. Russell and Chuck Roven wanted to have dinner with him. While the actor claimed that he is “picky” about the places he eats at, he went with their choice at the time.

However, upon reaching the place he was surprised and asked, “What is this, dude?” The filmmakers told him that it was sushi and he’ll love it once he tries it. While he was hesitant at first and denied giving it a try, he did fall in love with it after he tasted it.

The Uncharted actor also shared that sometimes due to some technical glitches, he was unable to film anything. He stated that on such occasions he would go back to the restaurant to have sushi. However, the night before filming in Dana Point, he went to a sushi place, that made him “violently ill.”

And it was not the best condition for him to film on the boat the next day. “Literally in between lines, I was puking and almost projectile vomiting on George [Clooney],” he said as he explained that it was not a good time for him. However, director Wolfgang Petersen shared that despite being sick, Wahlberg did his best.

Mark Wahlberg portrays the character of Bobby Shatford in the 2000 film The Perfect Storm. Described as the least experienced crew member of Andrea Gail, his character was based on one of the victims of the storm, who joins the voyage in order to make money to pay off his debts.

During his conversation with GQ, the Shooter actor shared that he was honored to be able to play a real person. “It was an honor to be able to play a real person, you know, who would kinda go out there and be brave enough to go on a swordboat,” he said.

Wahlberg shared that he wanted to do justice to his character, so he spent a lot of time with his family. He shared that he had an awesome experience working on the film. He has also shared that the film shows the dangers fishermen all around the world have to face.
