Hollywood star Charlize Theron has given several unforgettable performances on the screen. Over the years, she has seamlessly transitioned from being an acclaimed actress to being one of the most impressive action stars in Hollywood.

And Geroge Miller’s 2015 post-apocalyptic action film, Mad Max: Fury Road, is credited to be one the best action films, not only of her career but also one of the best action films in the past decade.

Starring alongside Tom Hardy, Theron’s performance as Imperator Furiosa took the spotlight and even landed a spin-off, which is expected to hit theatres next year. However, the character could have been significantly different if the Oscar-winning actress had not persuaded the film’s director to alter the original look of Furiosa in the movie.

George Miller’s 2015 film starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron has become one of the best movies of their careers. However, when it came to Theron’s Furiosa, the actress was not happy with her original look in the movie. During an interview with the NY Times, the actress shared that her look in the film was completely different and claimed that it felt “a little more Barbarella-y.”

She shared that her character had long hair with some African mud art on her face. It was under a different costume designer before the Oscar winner, Jenny Beavan, joined the production. The Bombshell actress also shared that Furiosa seemed to be a “very ethereal character.”

“I worried about it,” she recalled during her interview. She did not want to continue with the look and discussed the same with the filmmaker and decided to take a bold step to adopt the character. Miller trusted her with what she had in mind and agreed with her conditions.

Charlize Theron Suggested Shaving Her Hair For Furiosa

After learning what the iconic character initially looked like, Charlize Theron called the film’s director, George Miller, and discussed how her character’s costume wasn’t practical in any way. “I called him and said, “I don’t know how she’s getting by in the mechanics’ room with all this hair,” she recalled their conversation.

The actress then suggested shaving her head for the role and said that Furiosa needed to be a “more androgynous, grounded character.” Theron shared that Miller heard the issues she had with her character and trusted her decision.

“You know, he trusted me so much that it kind of makes me emotional,” she shared during her interview. Following her incredible performance, the makers announced a spin-off for Furiosa. However, Theron would reportedly not reprise her character, as the movie focuses on younger Furiosa.
