Over the past few years, the conversations about who should be telling stories about women have become quite popular. In an interview with The New York Times, 2019 film Bombshell star and producer Theron opened up on the topic.

The actress was asked about the commercially successful film written and directed by men. She shared that her first instinct for the roles would have been women, but she became part of the project at a later stage. She added that she joined the project because she was impressed by the script.

Theron defended the film and said that people should not compartmentalize the stories. She said,

“But this is such a great example of how we should not compartmentalize these stories to just one particular s-x being able to tell it. I want to see more opportunities for female writers and filmmakers, but I also think that it’s a mistake to isolate men completely from that process. When you find the right man to tell that story, there’s real value in that.”
She added,
“Listen, we should always question this stuff, and I’m totally open to the conversation around it, but if I had to do it all over again, I would do it exactly the same way. The men in my life are incredibly compassionate and ask questions about things in a way that is inspiring to me. Why would I eliminate that interest?”

The movie has an average income at the box office with $61.4 million grossing worldwide.
