HOME ALONE is being enjoyed by families over and over again in the run-up to Christmas – but did you spot this plot hole?

It’s either a small blunder in the story or the McCallister family are just really, really fast.

But either way, the speed at which they make it on to their flight for their holiday near the start of the movie is incredibly impressive.

When they realise how behind schedule they are, Uncle Frank declares that they have only 45 minutes until their plane departs.

In research by Mental Floss, it can be assumed that they drove from the property in Winnetka to O’Hare,the closest major airport – which is a 30 minute trip.

Knowing how behind schedule they were, the drivers of their mini-vans may well have stepped on the gas to get them their in much shorter time.

But still, that leaves them just fifteen minutes to check in, drop off their cases, go through security, get to the gate and board.

That’s not even accounting for the fact that the gates would close a certain amount of time before the departure.

The family may not have been good at remembering one of their children, but they were very good at hasty airport etiquette, it seems.

Home Alone was released in 1990 and became an instant classic; followed two years later by Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.

Both were followed by Home Alone 3 in 1997, which was lambasted by critics but still managed to pick up a B+ grade from audience polling company CinemaScore.

Home Alone 4 was released in 2002 and recast Mark Weinberg as Kevin McCallister and French Stewart as Marv.
