In a recent interview, Liam Neeson was asked if he would return to the role of a villain in Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise.
While James Gunn and Peter Safran’s lofty ambitions for the DC Universe have received a lot of attention lately, there are undoubtedly other DC projects that are still in the works, with Reeves’ The Batman sequel being the most notable. Neeson does not appear overly enthusiastic about the notion of going back to Gotham City, though, for those who are wondering if he would.

Liam Neeson
Neeson recently revealed that he has already played a significant role in the Batman film series, providing Christian Bale’s Dark Knight with his first foe with the role of Al Ghul, his former mentor. Naturally, the character’s fate wasn’t favorable, and after portraying one Batman villain, it would be odd for the same actor to play another one, even if it were in a new Batman franchise. It appears that Neeson is done with his tenure in a Batman movie and is not interested in running into the vigilante again.
Liam Neeson on joining Robert Pattinson’s The Batman sequel

Liam Neeson
In a recent interview with Mens Health, a fan asked Liam Neeson whether he will be interested in joining Robert Pattinson in his The Batman sequel. To this, Neeson responded by saying,
“Would I play a villain in the latest reincarnation of Batman?’ No, I’ve already done that in Batman Begins with Christian Bale. I was Ra’s Al Ghul. He wasn’t really a bad guy. He was trying to reorganize the world as it needs to be organized. No, I wouldn’t and I hear the latest Batman is like 3 hours long. Hello?”
The Batman 2 will debut on October 3, 2025, and will be situated in a different timeline than the one Safran and Gunn are constructing. This alternate timeline is known as DC Elseworlds. This nugget is significant since one of the concepts they mentioned was a reboot of The Dark Knight with The Brave and the Bold.
Liam Neeson isn’t really into the superhero genre

Liam Neeson
The renowned actor acknowledged his general distaste for the superhero movie genre in a conversation with Rolling Stone. Neeson made it clear that he doesn’t have a preference for this particular film type.
“I’ll be honest: All these superhero movies? I’m not a fan. I’m really not. I admire them because it’s Hollywood with all their bells and whistles and technology, which is phenomenal, but they all seem to me to be just the same story. You can say, ‘OK, you did do Chris Nolan’s.’”
The Dark Knight trilogy’s noir undertones, in particular, were one of the factors that attracted Liam Neeson to be a part of Batman Begins. The actor also went on to reveal that the major cast of the movie was also the reason why he ended up doing the film.
