When Julia Roberts recently decided to put her acting career on the back burner, it sent shockwaves through Hollywood.

But an insider reveals the Pretty Woman star has made life at home with her cinematographer husband of nearly 19 years, Danny Moder, and their three kids (16-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, and son Henry, 13) her top priority.

“Julia’s a proud soccer mom,” the insider says of the actress, who only takes on projects she feels super-passionate about. “She does the homeschooling and helps with all the kids’ assignments. No matter how amazing a movie or TV project is, she won’t do it if it interferes with her children’s schedules. Family comes first, everything else is secondary.”

It’s a lesson she learned the hard way. In 1995, Julia, 53, was heartbroken when her two-year marriage to musician Lyle Lovett ended in divorce.

“She’s said it’s one of the key reasons she’s fought hard to keep her union with Danny intact,” explains the insider.

It hasn’t always been easy, but the sacrifices have been worth it. “Danny’s given Julia the life she always dreamed of,” says the insider. “They’ve had their ups and downs like all couples, but they do better as a unit when she’s home and present.”

Now, the Homecoming alum is even contemplating moving away from L.A.. Last year, she and Moder, 52, plunked down $8.3 million for a historic home in San Francisco.

“They will still keep their Malibu mansion for work, but Julia and for work, but Julia and Danny like the idea of making Northern California their new base,” adds the insider. “They love the culture and vibe up there.”

“[T]hey’ll always hold onto their Malibu place,” notes the insider. “They love living by the ocean and away from the Hollywood chaos.”

The decision to move to Northern California comes after a series of disagreements between the couple around Roberts’ desire to move to San Francisco. Their Hawaii trip from December 2020 was riddled with questions around the same.

During their stay at the island, the two had enough time to “chill out and talk about all the stuff that’s been driving them crazy.”

After all, Hawaii’s been a “refuge” for them and works like “tonic” to address complications.
