While they did tried their best to convince him, his request to join the fourth installment might have been quite difficult to comply with.

As per his 2014 interview with Den of Geek, he was approached for the fourth installment however he turned down the offer.

“Then this morning I did hear – the office called – Sly [Stallone] wants me for Expendables 4. I said, “Okay.” Because they already asked me to be in two and three, but I refused. Well, I didn’t refuse, but I said, ‘Sly, can’t we just do you and me? Not just a bunch of people and me only coming out for five minutes.’ Because then the audience is, “Oh!” And then I’m gone.”

He wanted a face-off with just the Rocky star but the inclusion of a star-studded cast in addition to a small screen time was what made him take a step back from the film.

It was reported that Stallone really wanted him to be a part of the franchise which is why they even approached him for the fourth time in the upcoming film but it was of no avail.

This was not the first time when the duo was unable to collaborate on a project as the Hong-Kong-based martial artist was offered an antagonist role opposite Stallone in Demolition Man. However, he turned down the offer. They even planned to unite in the Chinese action film, X-Traction. This time, the Tulsa King star backed out with John Cena taking over his role.
