Manchester United are on the verge of sealing their second transfer of the summer with Leny Yoro set to complete his medical to reinforce Erik ten Hag’s defence at Old Trafford

Leny Yoro is set to sign a five-year deal with Manchester United should he pass his medical.

United have agreed a £52million fee with Lille that could rise as high as £59m with add-ons. The agreement was made last week before the 18-year-old defender decided to make the move on Tuesday evening.

Yoro has arrived in the North West to finalise terms and undergo a medical. A one-year option to extend his contract by 12 months will be in place as part of the five-year deal he is set to sign.

The Frenchman is set to become Erik ten Hag’s second signing of the summer after the Red Devils secured the signing of Joshua Zirkzee for £36.5m from Bologna. Real Madrid had led the race for the ace who has drawn comparisons to Virgil van Dijk.

Los Blancos have so far appeared unwilling to meet the fee that Manchester United have offered. Lille prefer to make a deal this summer rather than lose him on a free next summer after his contract expires.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have also been reported to be interested in the teenager but Real were the long-time favourites. United have taken advantage of a deal not being done to pounce however.

United have not ended their hopes of adding another defender to their backline but will be required to sell players before doing so. The club have seen bids rejected for Jarrod Branthwaite already this summer.

The 13-time Premier League champion’s move for Yoro could ensure a deal for the 22-year-old continues to prove difficult. The Toffees are said to have been emboldened in their stance after knocking back deals worth £43m and £50m.

Sean Dyche’s side are said to want nearer £70m for their defender who still has a contract until 2027. Everton have previously highlighted the fees spent on Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol in recent years, which are all £75m or above.

The Goodison Park side are also now under less pressure to sell with the club on the bring of selling Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50m. Onana joined Everton from Lille in 2022 for £30m and made 37 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Villa are looking to strengthen their midfield as they embark on a Champions League campaign. Unai Emery’s side have already seen Douglas Luiz depart for Juventus and have signed Ross Barkley.
