Is there really any bad blood between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber? Ever since the Wizards of Waverly Place alum split with Justin Bieber in 2018 after a long-term on-and-off romance, fans are convinced that she’s been feuding with his now-wife.

Over the years, the model has faced major criticisms from fans who slam her and Justin’s relationship on social media. On a few occasions, Hailey has clapped back. In April 2019, she hit back at Instagram commenters who compared her relationship with the “Baby” crooner to his romance with Selena (Jelena, as it has become known).

“You little internet kiddos need to learn how to move on for real,” she shared via Instagram Stories at the time. “We’re adults that have better things to do than waste time explaining something just so you can stop your delusional fantasies. I’m not gonna sit here and let obsessive strangers try to tell me about my own husband, you wanna talk about somebodies husband then get ur own. G’night!!”

Justin has also spoken to fans about comparing his past relationship to his current one.

“This sad excuse of a human just encouraged people on video to literally go after my wife telling people to say that my previous relationship was better [and] so on and so forth,” Justin said during a December 2020 Instagram Live after a commenter told viewers to “bombard” his stream with reminders about Jelena. “It is extremely hard to choose the high road when I see people like this try and rally to gather people to bully the person I love the most in this world. It is not right.”

EVERY TIME JUSTIN BIEBER AND HAILEY PACKED ON THE PDA: PHOTOS

Selena, for her part, has stayed quiet about her past relationship, but has vaguely addressed certain situations regarding the rumored feud between herself and Hailey. For example, after the songstress dropped “Lose You to Love Me” in October 2019, some fans were convinced Hailey shaded the track on social media. After social media users started sending her hate, Selena appeared to step in.

“I am grateful for the response the song is getting, however, I do not stand for women tearing women down,” she shared in an Instagram Live at the time. “I will never, ever be by that, so please be kind to everyone. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, if you’re my fans, don’t be rude to anybody, please. Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment. Please, for me, know that that’s not my heart.”

What Feud?

A source told Us Weekly in November 2019 that Hailey didn’t “consider there to be a feud” between herself and Selena.“Hailey thinks Selena is talented. By liking photos of Selena, whether it be a glam shot or ones that her friends post on Instagram, Hailey wants to show that there are no hard feelings,” the insider shared at the time. “It’s her way of trying to make peace and show her support for Selena in a low key way, yet public way.”

No Drama

“I think social media is a breeding ground for toxicity and people creating false drama between women and trying to put women up against each other and create these narratives that are just … toxic. I think that has to change and that has to stop,” Hailey told British Vogue in December 2019. “I think there needs to be more people with platforms coming together and saying to each other, ‘let’s kill the conversation, let’s kill the fake drama, let’s squash all these things, let’s move on from stuff.’ Let’s not give people a reason to fuel fire and create drama and being rude to each other.”

Selena Speaks Out

After Madison Beer and Hailey were spotted at a restaurant together in January 2020, so much online hate was being hurled toward the “Dear Society” songstress.“This is disgusting reading all of this. This wasn’t intentional whatsoever,” Selena eventually commented on one of Madison’s Instagram posts. “I’m so disappointed that people would speak to someone like this. I have known Madison since she was a baby and watching her continue to become the woman she is. There is no issue.”

Hailey Discusses Selena Comparisons

“I’ve had a really, really hard go, and a really hard time with a lot of the things people say, and a lot of the ways that people have made comparisons and just put me in a position where they’ve made me really feel like less of a woman. It’s not easy,” Hailey shared during a May 2020 Facebook Live. “I think I’ve gotten to a point where people are gonna say what they’re gonna say … People think they know what happened in his life and his relationships, and they think they know what happened between us and our relationship and how we got here and there’s no possible way they could.”She continued, “They invent details that they think are true that really aren’t, and I got to a point where I’m like, ‘Why am I even gonna try to go out of my way to set the record straight where it’s really nobody’s business and it doesn’t matter?’ There’s so much that people don’t know that went behind the scenes.”

The ‘Call Her Daddy’ Interview

In September 2022, Hailey appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and spoke about her husband’s ex-girlfriend.“It’s all respect, it’s all love. That’s also why I feel like if everybody on our side knows what happened and we’re good and we could walk away from it with clarity and respect then that’s fine,” she said. “Which had brought me a lot of peace and I’m like ‘We know what happened it is what it is.’ You’re never going to be able to correct every narrative.”

What Selena Said

“I think some of the things that I don’t even need to be aware of are just vile and disgusting, and it’s not fair, and no one, ever, should be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen,” Selena said during a TikTok Live video in September 2022, following Hailey’s “Call Her Daddy” interview. “All I have to say is, it’s incredibly ironic that I would release something that is all about kind words, ’cause that’s exactly what I want. That’s it.”She continued, “If you support Rare. I cannot thank you enough, but know that you are also representing what it means. And that is — words matter. Truly matter. So, it ain’t comin’ from me. And I just want all of you to know, that I hope that you understand that this is much bigger than anything else.”

Shady TikTok?

Hailey came under fire after fans claimed she was shading Selena in a now-deleted TikTok she posted in January 2023.After the “My Mind and Me” singer was body-shamed on the Internet following a photo of her wearing a bikini went viral in early January 2023, Hailey posted a TikTok around the same time that fans thought was a dig at Selena. The now-deleted video shows Hailey lip-synching to a popular sound, in which she mouthed the words, “And I’m not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right.”Before the video was deleted, a user quickly recorded and posted it on their TikTok account, alleging it was about Selena, which the Rare Beauty founder herself commented under. “It’s ok!” she wrote from her verified TikTok account. “I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone! x.”

For her part, Hailey has since denied that the TikTok was about Selena, writing in her own comment: “I never comment on this type of thing but we were just having a girls night and did a random TikTok sound for fun. It’s not directed at anyone [sic].”

Eyebrow Drama

This all began after Selena posted a video of herself via TikTok on February 22, 2023, after admitting she accidentally overdid a laminated eyebrow makeup look. Kylie posted on Instagram a few hours later, seemingly hinting at Selena’s prior post. The photo was of the beauty influencer’s makeup look, with text on top of her eyebrows saying, “This was an accident??” Following that, Kylie posted a screenshot of her and Hailey on FaceTime, with close-ups of their eyebrows.A TikTok video by the account @devotedly.yours went viral for pointing out the possible shade towards Selena, which Kylie eventually commented under.Kylie wrote, “This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! [You] guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”

For her part, Selena replied directly to Kylie’s comment, writing: “Agreed @kyliejenner It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

Hailey did not respond to any of the supposed eyebrow drama.

Hailey Speaks Out, Too

“I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this narrative between her and I,” Hailey wrote on her own Instagram Stories a few hours after Selena’s post.“The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together.”
