Inter Miami are set to exploit an MLS transfer loophole to partner Luis Suarez with Lionel Messi in Florida.

The duo spent six seasons together at Barcelona, forming a deadly partnership alongside Neymar which haunted defences across Europe.

The trident won four La Liga titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup during that time.

And Inter Miami may have found a way of reuniting Messi and Suarez by using an MLS financial loophole.

Suarez played his final home game for Brazilian club Gremio, scoring the winner against Vasco de Gama before bidding an emotional goodbye to their adoring fans.

Inter Miami are now looking to sign the Uruguayan, where he would join up with former teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, according to The Mirror.

However, MLS teams are only allowed to sign three players above the salary cap, who are assigned as Designated Players.

Messi and Sergio Busquets occupy two of those spots, while Brazilian midfielder Gregore is the third and final Designated Player.

Although Inter Miami may have found a way of still signing Suarez by using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to keep the 36-year-old’s salary below the DP threshold.

The report adds that Suarez would pocket an annual salary of around £158,000 per year, which is far less than some of his previous contracts.

But the striker is allegedly willing to take a pay cut in order to reunite with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

All teams in the MLS are allowed up to three Designated Players, whose salaries exceed the division’s Maximum Salary Budget Charge of $651,250 in 2023).

Clubs can activate their annual TAM allotment to help free up financial space, though. In 2024, the TAM amount available is thought to be £1.9million.
