Johnny Depp revealed that he only does drugs due to his mental health issues and growing up in an abusive environment
When the entire media was abuzz with the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial, there was a lot of mud being thrown from both sides.
Everyone remotely related to the two found themselves taking a dig at either of the parties, with the most common accusation being that they were abusive to their partners.
Indulging in substance abuse was not far behind. But Depp does not have any interest in partying the wrong way. For him, consumption is all about inner peace.
Johnny Depp and a history of controversies
For Johnny Depp, taking drugs was never about partying
Johnny Depp is no stranger to controversies. Even before the trial with Amber Heard, the What’s Eating Gilbert Grape star had found himself on the wrong side of the news headlines. More often than not, his actions would be linked with a propensity to take the odd ‘pill’.
Yet there was more to the whole incident than met the eye according to Depp. In an interview with Lawrence Krauss years down the line, he opened up about how he started taking drugs. And how partying with drugs was something he could never wrap his head around.
For Johnny Depp, it was all about keeping his life from tumbling
A young Johnny Depp took nerve pills to calm his brain
Johnny Depp was never one to do drugs for partying. The Tourist star was never one to shy away from the fact that he started drugs early, even at the age of 12. But it wasn’t because one of his friends told him, “Let’s party!” It was down to his mental health.
The 60-year-old first resorted to drug use as a kid to deal with his mother abusing him. He would begin with nerve pills stolen from his mother’s purse.
His arsenal grew soon enough. For the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star, it was never about having a blast. Resorting to substances was just a way to deal with the circus that his life was.
Did it calm the circus?
Johnny Depp has had his fair share of controversies
For Johnny Depp, it was all about “trying to calm the circus”. All of it was a part of his self-medication in order to calm his brain, and attempts to numb himself.
But his self-medication caught up with him, sooner rather than later. The Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star would find himself at the center of numerous controversies.
Depp had a track record for indulging in abusive behavior, with him even going behind bars on certain incidents. In 1994, he was arrested for ransacking his New York City hotel room, resulting in damages worth $6,000.
Seems like the substances did more than just calm the circus.
