Actor Denzel Washington is a legendary Hollywood actor who has earned various prestigious awards throughout his career including a Tony Award, two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Silver Bears.

His son, John David Washington, made him proud with his performance as The Protagonist in director Christopher Nolan’s 2020 movie, Tenet.

Denzel Washington once recalled how exciting it was to see his son in Nolan’s movie, particularly the experience of watching the movie at the director’s house. Shortly after that, the actor expressed interest in collaborating with the director, asking him to call him.

During an interview with Kevin McCarthy, actor Denzel Washington talked about the time he watched Tenet at Christopher Nolan‘s house. The actor explained how exciting it was to see his son, John David Washington, in the movie,

“It was too weird. First of all, we went to Chris’ house and screened it in his theater. So I’m sitting here, now I’m watching my son starring in a Christopher Nolan movie in Christopher Nolan’s house, so there was a lot going on. I’m looking at my son, and I’m like, ‘He sounds like me.’ I’m like, ‘Of course, he sounds like you, stupid. He is you.’ There were so many things that I was experiencing as a father.”

John David Washington initially pursued a career in American Football but entered the acting industry in the 2010s. His breakthrough role in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman (2018), for which he received both Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Apart from Tenet (2020), he is well-known for his performances in movies like Malcolm & Marie (2021), Beckett (2021), Amsterdam (2022), and The Creator (2023).

Further in the interview, Washington praised Christopher Nolan and asked him to offer him a role in his movies. He said,“Chris, call me. Call me, Chris… I’d love to work with Christopher Nolan, are you kidding me?”

Certainly, Nolan wouldn’t mind offering a role to Washington in the future, given his contribution to the industry. Thanks to his acting abilities and strong on-screen presence, he has successfully established himself as one of the best actors of all time.
