But Denzel Washington is making sure he will keep the crown as long as possible.

The 67-year-old A-lister was nominated for his ninth Academy Award for acting, tenth total, as he was recognized in the Actor in a Leading Role category it was announced on Tuesday.

Washington earned the honor as he played the titular role in historical drama The Tragedy Of Macbeth.

The black and white Joel Coen written and directed film – which is based on the play by William Shakespeare – is centered around a Scottish lord who becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power.

Denzel will face stiff competition as he is up against Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield for tick, tick… BOOM!, Will Smith for King Richard, and Javier Bardem for Being The Ricardos.

He starred opposite Ethan Hawke who played a rookie cop spending his first day as a Los Angeles narcotics officer with a rogue detective (Washington) who isn’t what he appears to be.

The A-lister was only the second Black man to win Best Actor at the time as Sidney Poitier, who died last month at 94 last month, was the first Black actor to ever win it in 1964.

Denzel was also nominated for acting in Cry Freedom in 1988, Malcolm X in 1993, The Hurricane in 2000, Flight in 2013, Fences in 2017, and Roman J. Israel, Esq in 2018.

He was also nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year for Fences in 2017 with Todd Black and Scott Rudin.

Viola Davis is the most-nominated Black actress ever as she was nominated for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom last year.  She won Best Supporting Actress for Fences in 2017.

The Tragedy Of Macbeth was also nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.
