As most people expected from day one, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the lucky winners of the Shohei Ohtani free agency sweepstakes.

Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Dodgers have signed the two-way superstar to a record-shattering 10-year deal worth a whopping $700 million. It is far-and-away the biggest contract in MLB history, easily surpassing the $426.5 million that former Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout signed in 2019.

There were inaccurate reports that Ohtani was on his way to Toronto to meet with the Blue Jays on Friday. Less than 24 hours later, Jays fans were dealt with the news that Ohtani is joining a star-studded Dodgers team.

Ohtani will join an annual World Series contender led by two other perennial MVP candidates in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. Needless to say, the sky’s the limit for what this group can accomplish.
