Anne Hathaway took on the role of the Grand High Witch in her film The Witches, portraying a formidable and magical character with sinister plans. Surprisingly, as a child, Hathaway didn’t harbor any fear of witches, despite the wicked character she portrayed on screen.
Anne Hathaway Enjoyed Every Bit Of The Process
The Witches is a fantasy adventure film adapted from Roald Dahl’s delightfully dark children’s book. Centered around a young boy’s encounter with a secret coven of witches led by Anne Hathaway as the formidable Grand High Witch, the movie takes audiences on a thrilling and enchanting ride, brimming with mischief and suspense.

“Witches always seemed like something you wanted to be. They’re powerful,” Hathaway told People magazine. “So I was always really into the idea of being one.”
During her childhood, Anne Hathaway fondly remembers a mischievous moment when she secretly sneaked into the living room while her parents were watching Poltergeist. However, being exposed to the movie at such a young age left a lasting impression on her.
“When I was little, my parents didn’t realize I snuck into the living room one night while they were watching Poltergeist and I saw that movie way too young,” Hathaway said.
“And to this day I’m kind of afraid of being sucked into a closet, which is why I don’t want my children to see this movie. Everybody else’s children can see it but my kids can’t see this movie until they’re like 30 because every time I smile they’re just going to freak.”
Anne Hathaway Planned A Fun Halloween For Her Children
Even though Anne Hathaway was cautious about letting her sons Jack and Jonathan watch the family horror movie The Witches, she still wanted to create a fun and memorable Halloween experience for them at home.

Anne Hathaway shared her plans for a special Halloween celebration with her close circle of friends.
They will organize a candy scavenger hunt in the backyard. Hathaway has a creative costume idea for her son, Jack, dressing him up as a monkey while she planned to be a tree.
“We’re getting together with people in our little circle to do a candy scavenger hunt in the backyard,” Hathaway said.
“Because my youngest, Jack, is 11 months old and crawling everywhere and climbing everything, I’m going to dress him up as a monkey and I’m going to be a tree.”
