Recognized by the entire NBA planet for his immense talent, Stephen Curry is however debated as to his position in a heated historical debate. A legend was also outraged following the position taken by another elder on the subject.
And to think that six teams let him slip away during the 2009 Draft. To tell the truth, few observers dared to predict a future for Stephen Curry as glorious as the one he subsequently experienced.
Arriving as the 7th pick at the Warriors, he won, among other things, 4 championship rings, two MVP titles as well as a Finals MVP trophy. Enough to place his name in numerous all-time discussions.
The Steph Curry case continues to be debated
For most of his worshipers and young fans who have only been following the NBA for a very short time, Curry would have his place in the Top 10 of the best players in the history of the league. A few weeks ago, he even considered himself the greatest point guard of all time . A very cheeky statement which nevertheless found echo among some of his counterparts, like Kendrick Perkins:
For the ex-pivot, Steph would therefore be right and would indeed have dethroned a certain Magic Johnson in this ranking. An opinion that the latter logically does not share, as he bluntly made it known when responding to the Chef . Rest assured, he is not the only one trying to rehabilitate him. In the Outside Shots podcast , Eddie Johnson took his side and dismantled Perk’s opinion:
That’s why I keep picking on people who don’t make him the greatest point guard of all time. Like Kendrick Perkins who says, “I agree with Steph Curry, he’s the best point guard. » I tell him that you have to drink a packet of tequila to say that! It’s blasphemy. Magic remains the best point guard in league history.
A contemporary of Magic, Eddie Johnson even rubbed shoulders with him on the courts during his high school years. As such, he was able to observe and endure his brilliance for many years and therefore perhaps lacks objectivity in this debate. From there to suspecting Curry’s supporters of hitting the bottle too much, the former Sixth Man of the Year is probably going a little (too) hard.
For Eddie Johnson, the question does not even arise: Magic Johnson has never abandoned his status as the best point guard in NBA history. Not sure, however, that he will manage to change the minds of Steph Curry and his fans with such comments.
